What:

  • Woodchute Trail then stop for a trail-side lunch near the top of Mingus Mountain, then forest roads down to Cherry which puts us just a few miles from Hwy 169 & I-17.

When:

  • Sunday, 7/25 at 9:30 AM
  • Meet at the large Jerome Public Parking lot on Jerome-Perkinsville Road (i.e. turn next to the Fire Department). Map here...

Trail Info:

  • Woodchute Trail is an easy to moderate trail (stock high clearance rig like a Wrangler or Tacoma is OK), very scenic with panoramic views of the Verde Valley. It's very brushy in places, so expect AZ pin-striping. Woodchute Trail info & GPX on Funtreks.com...
  • The forest roads from Mingus down to Cherry are all easy for any high-clearance rig.

Other Info:

  • Required: a high clearance street legal 4x4 rig with 4-low, suitable front or rear tow points, and all-terrain or better tires.
  • Skid plates & rock rails are always good to have.
  • bring a lunch and a chair!
  • FYI, there's no gas in Jerome (Clarkdale is the closest station, Cottonwood is probably cheaper)
  • Comms on GMRS Channel 21 (462.700Mhz).
  • Max of 10 rigs - after that we'll add you to the Standby list in case someone drops out!

This event is rain-or-shine ...and it looks like you are going to need a raincoat!

Please add me, gonna install my new steering stabilizer this coming week and this run will be a prefect chance to break it in. 😎

Update:  Turns out I don't need the new steering stabilizer...  Go Figure! 🙄

Will this run go on as planned even if it's raining?

there's a possibility we might not get to do the second portion (top of Mingus down to Cherry). the FS website says a contractor is logging in that area and may close portions of those forest roads intermittently. the first trail (Woodchute) is the more fun one IMO and we'll still have lunch up near the top either way after running that.
