Possible Holiday Party 2022 Locations - Discussion

Recommended Posts

A few of us were talking about possible locations for the holiday party in Jan. 2022, and I mentioned Burro Creek as being pretty central to all of us, so thought I'd start a conversation. There are a couple day-use picnic facilities, single campsites and a group-site. I am going to investigate to see if there is anyway to reserve anything in there because it's usually got a lot of visitors in January.

Burro Creek Recreation Site: https://www.blm.gov/visit/burro-creek-recreation-site

Features a desert garden containing a large variety of native cacti. A large area of scenic wildlands are located upstream, providing day hiking and backpacking opportunities.

Burro Creek Campground: https://www.blm.gov/visit/burro-creek-campground

Access to the Burro Creek Campground is provided via a 1.25 mile paved road from U.S. Highway 93 at mile post 140.2. The campground offers visitors 23 individual campsites, 1 group site, and 2 day-use sites featuring shaded picnic tables, fire rings with grates, and grills at the group site and day-use area. Flush toilet facilities are provided at 2 different locations in the campground as well as 1 dump station. Although water hookups are not available at campsites, drinking water is provided a various locations throughout the campground.

In planning your trip, please note that sites 1, 2, and 10 through 17 are best for larger RVs (Class A) and trailers (fifth wheels) due to maneuverability throughout the site. Other sites can be utilized for larger RVs and trailers, but it is recommended for visitor convenience that the aforementioned sites are used first.

I'm partial to the Agua Fria area, lots of places to hold a party.  The west side of Bloody basin could be a possibility.   @Ladybug Karen had a nice spot for a holiday party a few years back near Hope.

Burro Creek is on my list for places to check out for sure. Even if this doesn't work for an Xmas party maybe a run idea for the future.  Hot springs would be fun!

we could incorporate a short trail run near Wickenburg like Anderson Mill or Box Canyon of the Hassayampa - if we could find some less-used little offshoot near one of those trails to have the bbq & gift-exchange.

@Ladybug, what was that little trail we recently did near Nothing, AZ?

Down for anything, but diggin' the Wickenburg area. Anderson Mill and those side trails are all pretty neat!

There are also a TON of nice wide-open shady spots off of Camp Wood Road in Prescott just south and west of Hyde Mountain. Not real sure on the temps there that time of year.

Prescott average temperature in January is a high of 51° and lows of 22°. A little chilly.

The phrase " it's just a forest road" comes to mind as this is being discussed. 🤣  Anywhere accessible for non rock crawlers sounds good to me.

I've stayed at Burro Creek campground. Sites aren't large, don't recall what the day use sites looked like.  Bonus-- a Rest room for the ladie

the party's Saturday January 8th, location TBD.

D & I talked briefly and I think we're leaning towards our standard holiday party routine, just in a new location. i.e. a day run with bbq & gift exchange out in the desert rather than any sort of campout.
