shellback91   1,836 Posted December 6, 2021 I have been doing some research on camping stoves, so much I believe I have paralysis by analysis. 🙂 I have been eyeballing this Gas One Single Burner I came across on Amazon. It's can use propane or butane and seems pretty compact. Has anyone used this stove, if so have there been any issues in general or with the regulator as I have read? I think I saw one of these on a camping trip we did but I can't recall for sure. Any other recommendations anyone has for single burner stove?

Any other recommendations anyone has for single burner stove?  I was in the market earlier this year and looked and the dual fuel burners. I ended up being dissuaded by the bad press around the regulator and its unreliability when switching fuel sources - however I don't have any first hand experience with them.  I have an old Coleman twin burner stove that I love and have used for over a decade, but it's pretty ungainly to pack when I'm solo camping.  I ended up buying Gas One's GS-8300 folding butane stove and love it. Very compact, comes with a nice, durable, locking hard-sided case for storage. It's an even smaller form-factor than their dual fuel cassette stoves, which was a plus for me and my storage situation.  The burner expands when you open it and it will accommodate a full size pan. In the below picture, I'm using a 10" GSI pan. Per the website, you can use "up to a 12 inch cast iron" skillet on it.   I had zero problems with it getting hot enough, and it barely used any fuel spanning 3 cooked meals. I think I only used about 1/3 of the butane canister.  HOWEVER, I can see wind being an issue as the flame/burner is not well shielded - so that could become an issue - just not one I've had to deal with yet.  Here are a few more photos. It reminded me of "what if Apple designed a camping stove" 😆  Deployed:  Folded:  Folded:  2

Each foot has a rubber isolator on it for "traction" and presumably to help with the heat aspect.  The "arms" (for lack of better words) and burner are aluminum, so they cool down pretty quickly.
Cullen McCarthy   42 Posted December 7, 2021 I have never noticed major a heat transfer issue when using it. I do use it on a tailgate and moved it around while using or just after, it was warm but not hot.
