Charouleau Gap - Currently "Impassible"

Recommended Posts

Well - not really "impassable" - they made it through. It highlights how a trip can so south real quick, and how fast the weather can destroy a trail.

Full story here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/charouleau-gap-impassable.102055/

I've seen the story a few times now on Facebook - but just found a detailed trip report on the JL Wrangler Forums.

Looks like a diverse group went through (TJ, JL, new Broncos) and got more than they bargained for. A day trip turned camping trip.

Seems to me that most of the vehicles were stock, but "high end stock" with a Jeep Rubicon Extreme Recon and a Bronco Badlands Sasquatch Loch Ness Monster in the group.

Holy cow! Thanks for sharing Ryan. The rains have done a number on a lot trails in a lot of areas over the last year, year and a half based on what I've seen.

we've always run this as a 2 day trip, even though a well-modded small group could easily make it in a day.

i think the fact that it got dark played a big part in how they perceived the difficulty level... and having wider-bodied Broncos added to the challenge. that rocky "squeeze" area and the v-notches don't look any worse than the last time we ran it. the one actual washed-out missing section of road that they encountered the next morning is new and does seem to be a real obstacle though!

We ran it single day from the Oracle side end of March 2021. That was the first "hard" trail for the Mojave. It was a long day, especially after that time spent at the rescue of the broken arm dude.

That newly washed out section would likely be a real PITA for my trail limo.
