JL Factory spare tire holder

Recommended Posts

I need to extend my back up camera to clear the wider rim and tire cover I installed.  If anyone has a take off factory carrier, I want to try experimenting with ways to extend the camera support before I cut mine up.

thanks

In my JK, I put the backup camera in the bumper, and here is someone who relocated the JL factory camera to the bumper:

The response on that thread has more installation details:

In this same thread someone mover the camera to a bracket looping over the spare, but they don't say of they found or fabricated that bracket.

Camera Extension cables in case you want to fabricate a relocation bracket to go over the top of the tire:

@SonoranWanderer  Thanks for the info.  I had looked around on google/JL forums/FB and haven't seen what I want yet.   I am thinking of making my own extension for the camera in the stock space. Problem is, I don't weld.  The extension over the tire also seems like it would be fairly easy.

I totally understand which is why I think the in camera in bumper solution might be more efficient route. A mild pain to reroute the camera cable, but I've done that before and it only requires time and patience with basic tools, tape, and zip ties, no fabrication.

In the JK, I routed the cable through the floor water drain in the "hidden" storage bin, but If I had to redo it today, I'd probably use an extension and run it out the passenger taillight grommet. You'll already have the passenger side real paneling removed in order to pull the cable from the tailgate.

Alternatively you might investigate what type of bribe a certain DIY guy (<cough cough> @theksmith) would require to help fabricate an over the tire bracket.

Aw man, I literally just threw all my OEM carrier parts away last month.

Good luck with a solution! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

@4x4tographer

Thanks Ryan.  OB1 has reached out, I'm going to send him some plans.
