mbuckner 134 Posted December 1, 2010 awesome set up "kdude" ... does the swing-a-way door keep the dirt out of the connections???
theksmith 3,827 Posted December 1, 2010 awesome set up "kdude" ... does the swing-a-way door keep the dirt out of the connections??? i need to glue some rubber to the back of the door so that it seals against the quick-connects. right now it's just keeping the majority of mud and junk out but not fine dust. theksmith 3,827 Posted October 25, 2011 Update - rust! so the "solid brass" pneumatic quick-connects i got actually turned out to have some steel in them - the main internal valve apparatus - which rusted up on all of them over the past few months! other than the rust, no issues except when i put my rebuilt engine in, i ran one of the hoses too close and it bounced into a pulley and that cut a hole in it - but that's been re-routed back to original location and zip-tied to not bounce around. to replace the rusty connectors, i purchased some insanely overpriced Jiffy-Tite "valved" (or auto-shut-off, or no-spill, or whatever you want to call it) quick connects that are meant for fluid and are all aluminum and brass: http://www.jiffytite.com/ someone recently pointed me to an excellent cheaper alternative, but i already had gotten the Jiffy-Tite... these others are what i'd recommend if you needed an auto-shut-off connector for fluid: http://www.mcmaster.com/#51545k35/=en9ao6 http://www.mcmaster.com/#51545k53/=en9ao3 here's the new connectors: also, i don't think that i ever posted the final setup... i went with a plain ole kitchen sink sprayer after trying several shower head setups. and i used stainless steel hand-held shower hose for the final setup (1 for the intake, and 2 joined to provide a long run to the shower end): the hoses store in a little neoprene laptop bag i got for cheap at Big Lots: i'm currently working on semi-permanent water tank so that i'll only have to connect the shower and won't even need to get the intake hose out. this is why i wanted auto-shut-off connectors, so that i can have multiple inputs and outputs to the system and only those that are connected are flowing (instead of needing actual ball-valves on each input/output). i'll still have the option of using the external input if someone else has a water jug and wants to use the shower. WJChris 0 Posted October 25, 2011 Like most of your mods, I will someday "replicate" I will get to this some day. One thought about intake... Have you considered siphoning from a lake/river/creek? I thought if you got a good enough pump, 15 or 20 feet of intake could make a really nice long hot shower. It just bugs me to need to carry 25 gals of water just to have two 5 min showers (or more, because I have 2 girls)
