dzJeepChic 2,433 Posted January 18, 2011 The trip to Corral Canyon was an extreme fun time. Here are some pictures to start the thread, please post yours here if you've got them. The campground at Lake Morena just rocked: The view we had of our host BorregoWrangler John for most of the weekend: A few pictures from the trails: Scottl Maddogjeeper Mbuckner Steve in the Way Cool Lexus (CA guy we met) Theksmith Clifford We had an entirely cool weekend, which I photographed extensively and did no driving. I'll be honest: I was intimidated by Corral Canyon, and when I understood where we were going on Sunday, I had George drive based on pictures I had seen of narrow, shelfy, off-camber trails, while I concentrated on taking photos. I'm hoping to come up with a decent trip report out of this one, which may take me a couple of days. Thank you everyone who came out: Mbuckner, MaddogJeeper, Scottl & theksmith, not to mention BorrengoWrangler, Ollie, Steve (Lexus Dude), Terry & Tracy, and all the other FJ Cruiser dudes (sorry I don't know each of your names), you made my Birthday trip more fun than it would have been if you hadn't come along! d

OLLIE 1 Posted January 19, 2011 2011-01-15: Carvacre/Pancake Rock Run Due to the number of rigs that showed up, John took your Zonies through the Corral Canyon area and I took a group through to Carvacre / Pancake Rock. Saturday was a beautiful day and the fairly clear skies made for some nice views. We had one minor incident during our run when Gon2srf popped a bead on his tire while descending down off of Pancake Rock. We ended up using my rig for support by hooking my winch to him so he could remain stable while he hi-lifted his wheel off the ground to change it while at a very precarious angle. We had a great group on this run. Sammyred (Blue Rubicon), Ralphie, Gon2srf, and Cammo. Frogeyey was waiting for us when we came off the trail so he could follow us back to camp. Working our way up to Pancake Rock The approach to climb Pancake Rock. Lunch on Pancake Rock Ralphie's FJ Coming off of Pancake Rock. This shows the angle that we were at while changing Gon2srf's tire in the next picture. My rig tethered to Gon2srf to support him while he changed his tire. Cammo is actually standing up straight while removing the lug-nuts on Gon2srf's spare tire. A sample of the milder ruts on Carvacre... That's Lawson Peak in the background. Working our way off of the trail. We left the trail and headed back to Corral Canyon to make it to Los Pinos lookout tower for sunset. Pics to follow in another thread. OLLIE 1 Posted January 19, 2011 2011-01-16: Jacumba On Sunday we all met up again and headed over to Jacumba. We went up to Elliot Mine to show those that had never been there before Elliot Mine and Valley of the Moon. Camp in the morning. (Bobcat Meadow) Airing down... Working our way up the mountain the back way. This is a fun, narrow, and semi-tippy trail. The view from the old tower site. Gon2srf chilling while we all took a break at the old tower location. A campsite near Valley of the Moon where we stopped for lunch and got to know our new friends a little better. My son was slinging his six shooters all weekend. There's bandits in them there hills:lol: Here's a little Rody Boa that Frogeye found while scrambling on some boulders. He was safely release back to the wild before we left.
