I run my Hankooks between 12-15. I'll bet you'd not chunk as much if you were to go down around 15.
-
I've never run the KM2's. That being said, most of the people I know who've run them have experienced chucking due to not airing down enough. What pressure do you normally run at?

Inexpensive Hand-Held HAM Radio
C-Fish replied to theksmith's topic in Communications & Other Electronics
I picked up a UV5R at Overland Expo. Pretty nice radio for sub $100 with extra antenna and programming cable. The seller programmed the radio with his favorite repeaters and such, nice for the average HAM, but I want to clone closer to my in vehicle Yaesu 7800R. I made contact on 87 near the 4 peaks turnoff on my way home through the MT Ord repeater. Had a brief conversation until I turned off at Usery and the mountains blocked the 5w signal... I downloaded the program Chirp and the Windows driver so I can program via the PC (windows 8). All is working smoothly. Will be a nice addition to the truck for comms when out walking... -

What to use for Phone/Tablet based GPS (maps)
C-Fish replied to theksmith's topic in GPS, Mapping & GeoCache
MotionX lost Google maps with IOS6. Gaia has added some new map layers and other features that make it my favorite for now. Downloads are much faster as well. When I went to the So Cal Desert Rendezvous last month, Gaia worked perfect, I was even able to cache some new maps on the fly with cell coverage using my iPhone as a hotspot... -
What to use for Phone/Tablet based GPS (maps)
C-Fish replied to theksmith's topic in GPS, Mapping & GeoCache
I'll chime in on my iPad install. This writeup was done last year... I opted for a iPad 2 64GB 3G (Verizon) to save on the initial investment. I only use the iPad for couch surfing and in car navigation. 3G allows for GPS without WIFI. Install in a 2008 FJ Cruiser: Ram mount mounted to 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" square tubing (Lowe's) The holes allowed me to 'assemble' without the need to weld. Square tubing doubled up to allow the arm more articulation. I chose the generic Ram mount for the iPad as I utilize a Otterbox Commuter series case. Setup is solid, very little movement offroad, easy to adjust and allows multiple viewing angles for driver or passenger alike. Mount also folds flush if iPad is not in use. Apps installed are MotionX, Gaia GPS, CoPilot Live, MyTopo Pro. MotionX is a fantastic app (recent IOS changes make this less stellar.) The only issue is downloading maps via WIFI. I've had downloads take 5-6 days for bigger files 1.5GB. I wish you could download to your computer and then upload to the iPad. Gaia GPS has become my default navigation app. I use my iPhone as a hot spot when I have cell coverage to cache maps, but I still have downloaded about 20gb worth of hybrid and TOPO maps on to the device. The zoom settings I use are 10-16. Charging is done by a 2.1amp USB charger added into a (always hot) 12v source next to the glove box. Parts list: (2x) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KO5XVU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 (1x) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJA5ZY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01 (1X) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VBMN6S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 (1x) 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 36" square tubing (Lowe's) (2x) 1 1/4 square furniture caps (Lowe's) Assorted fasteners Black spray paint. Let me know if you have any questions. -Mark -
