This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- I've never been to Box Canyon / Mesquite Canyon / Coke Ovens, but thought it might be fun to go out exploring. You're welcome to join me as long as you don't expect me to a) know where I'm going or b) know what I'm doing. General info on the area: http://azgfdportal.az.gov/ohv/trails/traildetails#box A couple route maps I found of the area: http://www.everytrail.com/guide/mart...il-arizona/map http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1549957 While researching the area, I did come across a post on another forum from 2012 saying that access to the Coke Ovens themselves was restricted due to it being private property. Not sure if that is still the case, but if so, we'll just explore elsewhere in the canyons. As I mentioned, I've never been out there before, so I don't know if it's stock friendly or not. Travel at your own risk. Meet up will be at the corner of Price Station Rd and 79 (N Pinal Pkwy) at 9:00-9:30AM. Trail frequency will be 147.52 simplex. As for talk in, I would try Mt Ord 146.92 or Usery 146.86 (PL 162.2). How well that's going to work in the canyons remains to be seen. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

There's going to be about 100 Booths I'm told. Last year there were nearly thousand attendees I think. Good place for preppers and last year there were nearly thousand attendees I think. Ill get more specific details but I thought it might be a good idea for the club if someone wants to put out some info about membership there. This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Meet up at the Table Mesa Rd air down spot at 5PM. (Table Mesa exit off of I-17, left at the stop sign over the bridge, first right immediately after the bridge, air down is approx 1 mile down on the left just after you leave pavement). Leave as soon as everyone is aired down and ready to roll (but no later than 5:30). Freqs: 147.24 + 162.2 Hz PL tone and the trail frequency will be 147.52 simplex, no PL tone. The repeater is spotty at air down so simplex should be your main freq once you are near Table Mesa Rd. This is a beautiful, short trail that takes you from the Table Mesa air down spot to Rock Springs Cafe. It is my favorite trail in the Table Mesa area. The air down spot will become the air up spot at the end of the Gas Pipeline run Richard, N7IYT is leading later in the evening, completing a loop for those with non highway types of transportation (Polaris, etc). We should arrive at Rock Springs Cafe between 6:30 and 7pm and meet up with the group for the night run. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- :)We will meet at Denny's in Fountain Hills at 9AM and leave sometime around 9:30am or earlier if everyone is there... For those of you who want to brave it I will be at Denny's at 8AM so I can have Breakfast. If you decide to eat let me know how many so I can get a table, or two, lolol... The address for Denny's is posted below... Some requirements are, 32" tires & a lift will be a plus... I have seen a stock 4dr Wrangler Unlimited Sport do this run... Talk in frequency will be the Shaw Butte Constellation, Mt. Ord 146.920 PL TONE 162.2 & a MINUS OFFSET... When we leave Denny’s we will use 147.520 SIMPLEX and on the trail... Expect this trail to be at least 4 to 6 hours or more depending on what the trail looks like, so, plan accordingly... Please bring enough water for the people in your vehicle... Not sure is creek has changed but, there is the possibility you might get some Arizona Pin Striping... We will run all the way to the Creek (Dry or Wet) doesn't really matter, we will stop for lunch/gossip/treats/creek playing/etc... When we get to the creek there could be plenty of parking or not, if not a lot of room pull as close to the next vehicle so we can all fit in... In past years there has been plenty of room except one year where the creek was flowing and quite messy... After about an hour we will head out the same way we came in... This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- This is a fairly stock friendly route, includes a mix of soft sand and small rocky hills. You'll get up close and friendly with some bushes. I wouldn't recommend it for long wheel base vehicles (trucks), as there is one point that requires some tight maneuvering that may be quite difficult. This is the recording from the last time I ran it: http://kg7els.net/gpx/map.php?gpx=granitehills0222.gpx There are a couple of optional hills that some of the more adventuresome can try, if so inclined. The first one, "The Chute" (the label "hell no" on the gpx, as the first time I saw it last year after some heavy rains, those were my words), isn't overly difficult last I saw it except that you're in a fairly narrow cut, and the camber may put the top of your vehicle into a wall. The second (see the little out'n'back near 136th St) I only walked, but looked doable. However I was on my own and running short on time at the time. Meet up at Cave Creek Rd and Bartlett Dam Rd @ 8:00, head to the trail head at 8:30 for air down. If you want to air up at the North end of 136th St, you can, but there is more space for parking at 136th & Rio Verde Dr. 147.520 simplex for trail comms, most of the trail also has coverage from Mt Ord 146.920 if anyone wants to talk in. Because we have to be able to park and/or turnaround at the chute, I'm limiting this to 10 vehicles. My first time leading, go easy on me. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Quote: From John Hunter: The Sweet 16th Annual BBQ, and it goes down on Saturday, Dec 6th, starting at 3 PM. 16 years... seriously? Where did it all go.... For a lot of you, you know the drill and what goes down at Hunter's BBQ. For those that are new to the scene, or, of the select group that cant remember from last year, or years before... This originally was started as a way for the group to get together as club, in one place to meet face to face. Get ideas, tell stories, check out and show off jeeps and projects, and most important, hang out and make new friends. Read through for all the info. Here is the short scoop. When: Saturday, Dec. 6th 3:00 PM - till we close it down. (Usually about 7-8) Where: Hunter Offroad 625 S Smith Tempe, Arizona, 85281 Here's the gist. Everyone brings a little bit of food, and there is plenty for everyone. One huge pot luck. Bring a pack of burgers, a pack of hot dogs or soda. Bring a side dish, bean dip or ketchup, etc. Got a BBQ grill? Bring it and be a hero. Grills are always needed. Bring some cash for raffle tickets. I am going to try and spring for long sleeve shirt T-shirts this year and try and get a some vendors there as well. Bring some chairs to sit in, an a table to on if ya got it. Oh, don't forget the camera. Check below for all the info. This year will most likely we will have some good groups raising for charity. I will be "Stuffing the Buggy again this year for the a Toy Drive for the Sheriff's Office For starters, here's the basics and how-to rules for the BBQ, for all of you rookies coming for your first time; or for those of you, cant remember the last one .. If there are changes, they will be added here. Watch the "update" date to see if anything has been added. Notes will be added. (Such as more tables or if I need more BBQ grills, because you can never really have enough tables and BBQs) 1) First Rule, And most important. Food. Everyone brings a little. Biggest tailgate, or flat fender pot-luck party. Everyone will have a lot. Bring a side dish, bring a few bottles of ketchup, plates, drinks what ever. If you can, post what you are bring here so some folks can get an idea what you are bringing. One thing I ask.... If you buy meat, try and buy matching buns, helps cut down on being too lopsided. Bring a cooler with ice and have a friend bring sodas or water. You get the idea. 2) The W's of the BBQ Where: Hunter Offroad Parking lot 625 S Smith Suite 1 Tempe Arizona 85281 When 3:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 6th. It will kick-off at 3 O'clock Parking lot usually fills up pretty early. If you want to get in the parking lot and have a good spot, come early. Parking lot will be open by 12:00 if you are bring a trailer, please park it down the street to save room for the rigs who cant get into the parking lot Why its done: Goes back to the roots of the very first one... Allows everyone a chance to meet other Jeeper's and other 4wheeler's and swap ideas, check out other rides and get ideas, make friends and have a good time. Most fun you will have with your 4x4 in parking lot. There are a lot of new faces this year and should be plenty of new people from other clubs. So feel free to spread the word. 3) RTI Ramp, It will be good times as usual on the Ramp. Show everyone what you got. See if you improved over last year. Or just have fun and flex out for the camera. A rule to remember: No Rolling Off The Ramp on purpose..... well, at least give a warning if you are going to show us your skids plates and drive shafts. And in case you "might roll over" make sure your junk is secured. We will laugh at you when your tools and cans fall everywhere 4) The Infamous "Screw 'Em Raffle I know last year I had some local business really kick in for the raffle. I am always looking for things to donate, 4x4 related or not. If anyone here has a local business, regardless if its 4x4 related or now, contact me if you would like to promote. The Raffle Overview. 1 Dollar a Ticket. 12 for 10 bucks. *If you wear a Hunter Offroad T-shirt, you also get a free raffle ticket. *If you deck out your ride in Christmas decoration, you will also get free ticket for that. Also, if you want to bring can food items, I will make sure they get to St Mary's.. 5) Personal Beverages at the BBQ? Only thing I ask, remember, it is a family event, so take care and mind your self. It is private property so you can enjoy. If you like to bring some cold ones and talk shop with your buddies, go ahead and play nice and be prepared to share with the host. And my standing rule goes, I may or may not tell you what is my soda... 6) Selling stuff Swap meet ideas. Usually folks will want to bring stuff and try and sell or swap stuff. I have no problem.. Thats what this is all about. Got some old shocks or Jeep parts, bring and put them on display. Old winch you wanna sell? Stick out there. Only rule, don't bring so much stuff, that is takes up room in the parking lot for people to park. If you have something bigger, leave it on the street. I want to save room for folks to setup their chairs, and allow as much room for people to park as possible in the lot. Usually a Jeep in a place will still have some room in front, behind or besides to display stuff. That's fine. 7) Kitchen Help I need BBQ's. And Ill say it again, Im gonna need some BBQs. And tables for the food... always do. More the better. From the past, 5 normal size grills can cook all we need in the time to feed everyone. Be a hero and bring a grill. We are always looking for volunteers to help. Also, anyone want to run the kitchen area? I have found it does help to have a little direction. If You wantto bring a BBQ, please send me a message Also if anyone wants to donate to the raffle, Please contact me. In year's past we have had gift certificates for a restaurant other club members bought, to a free therapy massage by a another club member's private business, gift cards, or even the classic re-gift. Email: hunteroffroad@aol.com or call 480-557-7577 Do not to forget to bring Tables and chairs to sit on too for you and for others. Also, I will need BIG tables for Kitchen Area. Contact me if you have some. Will need at least 4 to 5 3x8 tables. That should cover the bulk of it. This post will be the one I update so check it for the news. Best Regards, John "Hunter" ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Rose Quartz Mine Trail… We are allowing up to fifteen vehicles on this run and as many passengers as your vehicle can safely hold… This run is about 4.5 miles in off of the Beeline Highway starting at the Sycamore Creek Turn off… Expect this run to be an all day event... We will meet at 07:00 AM at the "Denny's 17053 E SHEA BLVD, FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ 85268 and leave no later than 07:30 am or when all are there... If the day of the run and you can't make it please call Harry at (602) 290-3781 and let me know if you are running late or you will not make it. Trail frequency will be 147.520 "SIMPLEX" I will be on simplex when we leave Denny's. I will be monitoring 147.240 + offset and 162.2 PL Tone "Shaw Butte" & 146.920 - Offset and 161.2 PL Tone "Mt. Ord" while at Denny's''' This Trail is rated a 3.0 and is VERY scenic… We will air down/disconnect once we get to Sycamore Creek Turn off… Hope this link works, This is where we will Air Down... http://maps.google.com/?ll=33.796802...04308&t=h&z=18 Recommendations are to have at least a 2” lift, and 32” tall tires. A locker will help and Unlimited Slip will be a benefit also… Now, with saying that I have seen a Stock 4DR Wrangler Sport Unlimited on this trail but, they did have some scraping/off camber moments etc… I have also seen vehicles with open diffs and it made for an interesting trek… There is also the potential for some “Arizona Pin Striping”… Once we get in the wash and if you spot some Rose Quartz, well go ahead and get it… The more Ruby/Rose looking the better… Once we get back to the end of the trail we will have lunch in the wash by some trees and you can walk up the wash and have an opportunity to score some Ruby Quartz… Now since the Monsoon has started it can and has been in the past made the wash really “FUN” especially if it has water running in it… It can also change the way/place we end up at for lunch… Some Rose Quartz can be very large so if you have something to break off a piece it might help, unless you really want that certain piece of Rose Quartz then you will have to be a muscle man/woman… This is NOT a mine in the sense you can walk into it… It is scattered up and down the wash… Please have enough water, food and supplies for your vehicle and your occupants… Above of let’s have a safe & fun time on this Trail… Harry KF7OQZ ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- We have done this trail as a night run several times before, usually in June. The run is scheduled on the night of a full moon, so we should have plenty of light. Most of the run is fairly easy, the hardest part is crossing beneath the North bound lanes of the I-17. There is a culvert with a sharp drop at the end. I have seen several vehicle types negotiate this culvert, so the run is open to all 4X4 vehicles, just be aware that some vehicles will scrape exiting this culvert. Meet up time will be 7:00 PM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Chevron Station at I-17 and the Carefree Highway. We will leave the Chevron Station at 7:30 PM and proceed to Black Canyon City where the trail begins. The run should take about 2 and a half hours, depending on the size of the group. Talk in frequency will be 147.24 + 162.2 Hz PL tone and the trail frequency will be 147.52 simplex, no PL tone. Here is a map of the trail: Gas Pipeline Trail 20090530.GPX Gas Pipeline Trail 20090530.tpo Gas Pipeline Trail 20090530.kml Here is a link to a previous run. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...
