FYI - The name is a joke, there's nothing even close to "formal" about this event! UPDATE: The location has changed to a dry/dispersed campsite instead of the campground, see below! This year the party is in Cottonwood, AZ! We've got plenty of fun planned (even beyond the fireside shenanigans and general good time!). Attend an easy to moderate trail ride on Saturday, or just play tourist in Cottonwood, Jerome or Sedona (did someone say winery tour?). Back at camp later you can enter to win some great Offroad Passport swag in the homemade salsa contest or one of our epic camp-challenge games! So grab the family and come spend a weekend tent or RV camping with us. Don't be that person hearing about all the great stuff you missed for the next whole year - sign up now! Location: Our original campground reservation was canceled due to COVID-19... Location confirmed! We've found a dispersed camp spot accessible by higher-clearance trucks/SUVs and RVs. It's 30 minutes east of Camp Verde, just off AZ Hwy 260 on Forest Road 142H. I don't believe the Forest Road is signed with a number, so you'll need the map or GPS coords below. Google Maps link... GPS coordinates: 34.505833, -111.582222 Alternate coordinates format: 34° 30.35' N, 111° 34.9333' W Photo of the turnoff here... just EAST of mile marker 241! Important: This spot is currently bone dry but would be too muddy for RV's if it rains a ton the week before the event. Just in case, we have a backup location about 10 miles away, right off AZ Hwy 87. Cost: Camping Cost: There is no longer a camping fee due to the change in location, please contact us if you pre-paid and did not already receive a full refund. Suggested Donation: This is our annual fundraising event and a donation of $15/person (adult) would be greatly appreciated. We're not doing a raffle or receiving anything from campsite fees this year. Club & Supporting Membership fees typically only cover our absolute most basic operating costs and so we're really relying on folks to donate. Please see Diane at the event to make your donation. Itinerary: Friday Arrive anytime, most folks show up mid afternoon. Setup your campsite. NEW: Pumpkin carving on-your own anytime after arrival. Dinner (self-prepared) and social time, be sure to welcome any new faces! Saturday Morning Depart camp 9 AM for trail ride (details below), or head into Cottonwood/Jerome on your own for touristy stuff, or just hang out and relax at camp! Saturday Afternoon / Evening Offroad Passport Annual Salsa Contest! Jack-o-Lanterns that were carved on Friday go on display! GAMES!!! Navigation Challenge, Tent Erection Challenge, maybe more! Join the fun and win prizes! Social time, visit with old friends and get to know new folks! Sunday Leisurely break camp & head home anytime! Important Details: Be sure to bring everything you need for meals, including to cook with (there are no common grills, tables, or seating). Alcohol at camp is OK - please be responsible and respectful. ABSOLUTELY NO DRINKING & DRIVING! This is a family-friendly event! Saturday Trail Ride: We'll lead an easy to moderate rated trail ride: Clover Springs / FR 142, click here for details... Be sure to you are at the campsite before 9AM on Saturday if you're coming on the trail ride! We will be traveling on paved roads from camp to the trail and back, so vehicles must be street-legal/licensed or towed. CB Channel: 4 or Ham Frequency: 146.460Mhz (it's ok if you don't have either for this run) Remember to bring your lunch, plenty of water, and chairs! NEW!! Pumpkin Carving Contest: Bring your own pumpkin and carving tools Trash bags and votive candles provided Carve at camp Friday afternoon or evening, or Saturday after the trail rides Finished Jack-o-lanterns on display Saturday evening - Everyone come VOTE for your favorite! Jack-o-lantern with the most votes wins a Super Secret Fun Prize! Annual Salsa Contest: Enter your homemade salsa! Keep salsa on ice until Saturday evening. Offroad Passport will supply chips, and you're welcome to bring more. EVERYONE come enjoy the chips and salsas and PLEASE VOTE for the winner! The salsa with the most votes wins a Offroad Passport T-Shirt! How you can help out: We need EZ-Ups or other shelters, please let us know if you can bring one for use in a common area. Bring your corn hole or other lawn games to play at camp. Be sure to stow and haul away your own trash. Familiarize yourself with Offroad Passport's Pet Policy Make a donation (see "Suggested Donation" info above). Tee's & Hats Available at the Event: Event Special Prices! March Madness 2020 was like no other March Madness so far. The Covid-19 shut-downs and grocery shortages effected us quite a bit, as did the rain! George and I drove to Kingman on Tuesday, but it rained all that night, so we bailed on Wednesday, Day 1, on Home Court, and did our visiting and things instead. But then the rain just kept on coming down, on into Wednesday night. So we bailed on Thursday, Day 2, on Safelite. Finally, we began to see some clearing in the forecast, so we made it to Friday, Day 3, on the Wedges trail. Waiting in line at the 1st obstacle, see how wet the trail was. It was hard to stay on your line over the obstacles. Not even to the 1st obstacle when it started to rain. And then it rained off and on all day. I hardly got any pictures because I was trying to stay dry in the Jeep. Saturday, Day 4, Serendipity trail. At the air-down, we kind of divided into 2 groups; a faster group, who all wanted to get to the end of the trail, and a group who didn't care how far they got. We went with the first group, and George was the first Jeep over the gatekeeper obstacle. Creampuff did really well. We stayed at the first obstacle watching the other rigs come up it until suddenly George noticed that our group had already gone. So we took off up the wash to try to catch them. We probably got about halfway to them when all of a sudden BAM! - HISSSSSSSSSS! George didn't notice a sharp outcropping of rock, and drove the driver front tire right into it! We sustained about a 4" slash in the sidewall. So we changed the tire and headed home, because you can't wheel without a spare. 🥺 And so Serendipity trail will remain G's nemesis; he still has not made it to the top. All my (few) pics here: Diane's Pics It was a great trip regardless of the weather. We enjoyed getting out of here and we got to visit with my mom. It was really fun to see all our friends and laugh about not shaking hands and such. I was especially pleased that I was not driving when we blew out the tire, so now I don't have to hear about how I screwed up for the next year or two. 😉

We're afraid that continuing to call the annual event the 'Cinders', that it's going to confuse people, and they're going to drive to the Cinders even though we're at a different location. 😊 What should we name the big, awesome, salsa contest, games, shenanigans, annual event? Vote and discuss below!

We hosted our big annual event for many years at an improved campground near Flagstaff, AZ, and the Cinders OHV. We originally chose that place because it offered shelter from rain, and it has running water, electricity and vault toilets. Offroad Passport paid for the reservations up-front and charged a per-person fee to cover the cost. This year we tried something different, and held the event at Milk Ranch Point on the Mogollon Rim, where there were no amenities other than an amazing view. The camping was free, and Offroad Passport requested a nominal donation to help keep the club going. As we plan future events, we'd like to hear from our members as to which type of venue you prefer. There's nothing that says we can't switch back and forth, or avoid one over the other; but we'd like your feedback. If you know of a place you think would be a great spot for an event, please let us know about it! Improved campground: Primitive camping:
