Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- I am planning to head up to Death Valley with Land Ops folks later this month. They are planning an op in the Coso Range of Death Valley, near Panamint Springs. They are going to run a desert navigation - communication exercise on Saturday March 30. They plan to stay in the area exploring for a couple days after the op. I am thinking of making a long weekend of it and head up on Thursday, 3/28 with a planned return on Tuesday 4/2. With all the rain this year, they are predicting another super bloom in Death Valley. I went a couple years ago and the scenery was pretty incredible. For anyone interested in visiting Death Valley this spring, this is a great opportunity to explore with a group that knows the terrain and enjoys mixing ham radio with off roading to help sharpen desert navigation skills. If interested, hit me up and we can try to get a small group together to head up from AZ. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- October 12-14, 2018 is the date for the AZ NV PA and SD QSO Parties! AZ NV PA all have the same exchange. This makes working all three simultaneously easy. For PA simply put the signal report (59 usually) in for the serial number. If your using N1MM+ Logger, or other loggers, simply "force" the log from other states. Then turn in the same Cabrillo file to all three parties. If your really good, you can edit your exchange file for N1MM+ so you don't have to force the other states exchange. https://www.azqsoparty.org/ http://nvqso.com/ http://paqso.org/index.html https://sdqsoparty.com/ Once again NV7CV will be working from a tri-county county line expedition in Nevada. We're looking forward to hearing you on the air. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Fourth Annual Jeep Beach West Pismo Beach, Ca / Oceano Dunes Oct. 6 – 8, 2017 I attended this event last year and it was a blast. It was great being able to camp and play on the beach. There are hotels nearby for those who don't like falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean lapping at your tent or RV on the beach. This year they have added a day and a new trail ride in the nearby mountains. Here is a video recap from last year to give you a feel for the event: https://youtu.be/4dxi9XGC5V4* Full event details can be found at JEEP BEACH WEST I ran into a few Jeep folks from AZ on the beach last year. I'd like to see a bigger showing this year, and a few hams would be great to help with communications out in the dunes and on the trail ride to Garcia Ridge. If anyone else is interested in going, hit me up and maybe we can make some plans to hook up on the beach and have some fun. Here is some general info on the event. Jeep Beach West is Fun, Sun, Jeeps & Driving on Dunes! In 2015, our 2nd year we had: 152 Jeeps, 9 Sponsors, 2 days and 1 Wedding Proposal. In 2016, we had over 300 Jeeps registered and expect to keep doubling. Events this year include a local trail run to Garcia Ridge, wheeling in the dunes day and night, a newbie run, a bright light competition, a show 'n shine with prize giveaways, kids krafts, beachfront parade and Competition Hill climb challenge. Registrants prior to 9/11/17 receive a mailed packet with a unique JBW sticker, matching coozie, sponsor coupons and swag, a product give away ticket, & tickets for Saturday night's hot dog cook-out. Product giveaways provided by our gracious sponsors include lighting, winches, tow ropes, Monster Hooks, Spiderwebshades & Trashvaroos and lots more! This is a family and dog friendly event. Please help spread the word and Jeep the beach this October! ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

  19. This event is cross-posted from our sister club 4x4 Ham. Note that only the first post from the original thread is shown. Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Attention Arizona Hams, We need you to take action! Support Arizona SB1132. http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/53leg/1R/bills/SB1132P.htm This legislation makes the needed changes to get $17 of each $25 fee for the Amateur Radio Specialty Plate to benefit Amateur Radio in Arizona. Like all of the other specialty plates in the state, we want those funds to be directed to a 501c3 non-profit organization. First, contact your Arizona Senator and Representatives from the House, urging them to sponsor or vote in favor of SB1132. Have your friends, spouse/significant other, children of voting age, family members, coworkers, or anyone else you know do the same. 1. Look up your Legislative District: http://azredistricting.org/districtlocator/ 2. In each Legislative District, you will have 1 Senator and 2 House of Representatives. Use the respective links below to find your 3 members of congress. Use their email@azleg.gov or call them, requesting they support Arizona SB1132. Senate: http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster/?body=S House: http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster/?body=H Here is example text to be used for letters or email: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ January 21, 2017 Dear Senator/Representative NAME, As a licensed Amateur Radio operator in Arizona, I request you support SB1132. The proposed changes are supported by the national organization American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the state organization Amateur Radio Council of Arizona (ARCA). The Arizona Amateur Radio specialty plate is the only one not funding a 501c3 organization. Amateur Radio has a rich history in Arizona with support going back to the days of Barry Goldwater, K7UGA. With the $17 from each $25 plate fee, we will be able to increase educational scholarships that are awarded each year. Other funds will be directed to benefit amateur radio clubs to provide educational opportunities and strengthen systems in place for emergency communications. I thank you for your support of SB1132, amateur radio operator special plates. Sincerely, Your Name, Call Mailing Address ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Second, SB1132 will be heard in the Senate Transportation & Technology committee on Tuesday, January 24th at 2:00 pm. The meeting will take place in Senate Hearing Room 1 located at 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007. We are requesting that as many of you attend as possible. A few of us will be standing up to speak in support of SB1132 and we need you in the audience. Please wear your yellow public service shirt or dress business casual or better. Thank you everyone for your support and we hope to see you Tuesday afternoon. This way you can subscribe to the thread to get event reminders and see post run reports and images in one spot. This is also to make sure we are a good forum supporter by keeping the post clutter down to a minimum and it allows us to post all the disclaimer stuff in one spot. 2017 Event Dates: --------------------------------------------- March 4-5 – Black Rock Desert / Lovelock Mines April 7-8 – Salton Sea / Ocotillo Wells May 19-20 – Area 51 – Vegas to Vegas June 24-25 – Test and tune / Dirt days July 14-16 – Pony Express – Salt Lake to Carson City August 18-20 – Mammoth Volcanic Trails September 8-10 – Pismo Beach Dunes October 13-15 – ROC Fest – Barstow Events will be posted to this thread on how to sign up. Disclaimer: --------------------------------------------- These are pay your own way events. This means even I, the organizer, pays my own way to attend. Organizing drives is my hobby, and I enjoy organizing and hosting events for fellow enthusiasts. I pay for the website and store system out of my own pocket to make sharing information and registering easier on everyone. Expectations of participants. --------------------------------------------- Our trail runs are planned around having fun, seeing sites, and traveling specific amounts of mileage per day / event. This means you, the participant, are aware of the miles needing to be covered per day and that you are expected to cover these miles in a reasonable time frame. Our group is NOT a "fly as fast as you can" group, but at the same time we are not a crawler group. We enjoy off roading with all types of trucks/SUVs , therefore the routes and daily mileage requirements are selected with non-modified 4X4 vehicles in mind. By signing up, you understand we ask that when the trail conditions allow, you drive at a safe pace that allows you to cover the terrain / distance as expected by the group. The net template will be published for other regions to start their own net, if desired. We'll also try to host occasional IRLP/Echolink or HF nets. ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...

Click here for the full thread... ---------------------------- Quote: SKYWARN Recognition Day On-the-Air Event is Saturday, December 3 11/22/2016 The annual SKYWARN Recognition Day (SRD) on-the-air activity will take place Saturday, December 3, from 0000 until 2400 UTC (starts on the evening of Friday, December 2, in US time zones). SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and ARRL to honor the contributions that SKYWARN volunteers make to the NWS mission — the protection of life and property during threatening weather. During the SKYWARN Special Event, hams will operate from several NWS offices. W1AW will take part in the event. The object of the event is for all participating Amateur Radio stations to exchange contact information with as many NWS stations as possible on 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 meters plus 70 centimeters. Contacts via repeaters are permitted. Stations will exchange call signs, signal reports, locations, and a one or two-word description of the weather at their respective locations (e.g., “sunny,” “rainy,” “partly cloudy,” “windy”). NWS stations will use various modes, including SSB, FM, AM, RTTY, CW, and PSK31. While using digital modes, special event stations will append "NWS" to their call signs (e.g., N0A/NWS). Event certificates will be electronic and printable from the main website after the conclusion of SRD. An online submission form is available to submit your log summary for SRD. SRD Webinar Set A webinar will be offered on November 30 at 0100 UTC (the evening of November 29 in US time zones) in advance of the 18th SKYWARNRecognition Day (SRD) on December 3. Register for the webinar online. The pre-event webinar will cover SKYWARN Recognition Day basics, explain how to participate, and alert participants to a few changes in store for 2016. The webinar will be recorded and posted to the ARRL YouTube channel. More... ---------------------------- Please click here for complete information on this event or to sign-up...
