Greetings to everyone and all! I go by the name Mark. I am from Croatia and I am an american vehicle enthusiast. As a side note, I also have a Harley. :-) I decided to give it a go here, in my rig section. I kind of think that I earned the right to do so, and, it might be somewhat interested for someone to see what struggles one gets over there in the old world regarding new world car. I am reading this forum since 2018. I was most impressed by theksmith's WJ build which I followed from the beginning to the end. Chris inspired me to buy my first jeep. It was at the time black WJ, and I modded the crap out of it. Mostly badly mind you. Because there is no jeeper culture where I live. I had to do everything by myself, and learn in the process of doing it by reading forums, watching YouTube, and plainly making errors. I broke cardan shafts, I shattered bumpers, bent control arms, even damaged some engine components (none of this damage was done off-roading LOL) but I learned. When I sold my WJ in summer of last year, I got more for it than what I paid for it and it was a machine to behold. My kids actually literally cried when the man who bought it drove away with it. But, somewhere in the middle of it all Chris bought his 2016 Wrangler. Oh man! I was so anxious to see what build he would do! There was absolutely no chance that I could afford a JK at the time. But there was one thing that I could do - I started saving for my own JKU. Keep in mind that the average country salary in Croatia is 1400 euros per month, not per week. New Wrangler goes for 70k, lower trim. Nowadays, Wrangler 392 goes for 120k. Absolutely bonkers. I knew that I could never buy new. Used however was an option. I just did not want destroyed used. I wanted something older but good. With that in mind, I had to be creative if I wanted to get myself a good JK. Fast forward, after years of struggling and saving, I got myself a JKU, 2015 copper brown, 2.8 CRD diesel engine. This was in summer 2024. Sold my WJ, added saved cash to the pile, found the perfect JK for me, sat in the plane, flew to Germany, went in the car saloon and bought it for 30k. Drove back home a thousand kilometers with it. Freaking awesome experience, that. My wife was, for the first time ever, speechless. I gave 30k for a ten years old car. Speechless, I swear. So here we are, in summer of 2025, and I already have my JK for a year. And I already done some stuff to it. Therefore - this thread. It is going to be a slow thread. I am working at a job that brings me all around the world (writing this now from a hotel room in LA, of all places, nicely build JL below the window...) so working on my JK is done slowly and will be done slowly. First things first, I have to figure out how to post photos. Thanks for reading so far!
