  1. ***UPDATE!*** 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 All flags have already been placed! (link) 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Join the Offroad Passport family as we volunteer at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona ahead of Memorial Day! We will work together to honor those laid to rest by placing American flags at the grave markers. This seemingly minor act has a tremendous positive impact on the families and friends who will visit their loved ones on Memorial Day and the days following while the display is up. When: Saturday & Sunday: May 27-28, 2023 There is no official time, come out whenever you can and for as long as you wish! Every little bit helps! That said, my family plans to be there at 8:00am on Sunday the 28th. 🇺🇸 Flag supplies are typically dropped off on Friday night. People arrive to begin placing flags on Saturday morning. You're more than welcome to come out which ever day works best for you! Where: The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona Main Entrance Address: 2965-3007 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/7b9KbCH7SrvCJhgk8 Coordinates: 33.694867, -112.019714 Some Notes: Note that the main entrance to the Memorial is off of East Pinnacle Peak Road There is a small parking area directly south, once you enter the Memorial. Additionally, you can park off to the side of the roads. In the past, the crates of flags were located directly across from the parking Who Can Volunteer? ANYONE! This Volunteer event is open to anyone and everyone! Bring your family, children, grandkids, and friends. Many hands make light work. Note that pets are not allowed in the National Memorial Cemetery. Please leave them at home What to Expect: The VA supplies multiple large crates with thousands of American flags. These are small and attached to a wooden dowel. The crates of flags are there for volunteers to use to distribute around the National Memorial. We will gather up flags and work on installing them at any grave marker that needs one. There is no particular time commitment needed or quotas. Simply offering up your time is extremely helpful and appreciated! Additional Considerations: Bring a tool to help you insert the flags into the dirt. The ground can be hard and sandy. I had good luck with a large 10" screwdriver. Work gloves to help prevent blisters/protect your hands A canvas tote bag to stash your flags so you need to make fewer runs to resupply Sunscreen Plenty of water to hydrate! We live in Arizona, don'cha know! A wide brim hat - there is minimal shade on the property Volunteers: Obviously since this isn't a run, theres no limits or reason to track participants - however it'll help with knowing how many folks intend to help out! Drop your name below and what day you plan to help and we'll get you on the list! 🇺🇸 Saturday: 🇺🇸 Sunday: @4x4tographer & @Yodamom @ob1jeeper & @Ladybug @Mick Bowers + Ken @johnpa @theksmith +2 Kevin Sherwood + 4
  2. *** UPDATE *** Update: 6:00pm Friday 5/27 The crew showed up at 5pm at the AZNMC as planned and there were, unfortunately, no flag supplies. The supplies *should* be available on Saturday morning. It's a bummer, but we really appreciate everyone that came out to volunteer. You are all amazing people. My apologies for the bad intel. Several folks said they would return Saturday. My family plans to come back out Sunday morning to volunteer. That said, if you can pop by the National Memorial anytime this weekend for an hour to plant a few flags, it'll make you feel amazing. I promise. There was a veteran's group setting up on some State Trust Land, just outside of the gates. They are working separate from the VA and the AZNMC. They noted that they will be starting work on Saturday at 6am. They were responsible for the installation of the 10-15ft flag poles along the main drive. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Join your fellow Offroad Passport family as we volunteer at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona ahead of Memorial Day! 3. At my company's annual gathering this week, we spent part of one day volunteering at Feed My Starving Children in Mesa. We all had so much fun at the event, and I felt that the impact of our efforts was so meaningful, that I've reserved a time for Offroad Passport members to volunteer some time. The event entails getting checked in 'Covid style' (i.e.: temp check, mask, ect.,) listening to a short orientation, and then working together as a team to fill, seal, and pack as many packages of Manna Pack meals as we can. The FMSC team replenishes food bins and supports the teams throughout, as well as playing some nice loud rock-and-roll to help get everyone pumped! It's a fun and fast-paced 1.5 hours of production. Kids over 5 years old (accompanied by an adult) are welcome, are fully able to participate, and will enjoy the experience. What: Packaging meals for kids in need, worldwide. Where: Feed My Starving Children, 1345 S. Alma School Rd., Mesa AZ 85210 When: Saturday, June 19, 2021 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM (Please arrive 10 - 15 mins early so that we may gather our group). About FMSC: FMSC provides everything needed, and has honed the volunteer process to a precision 'T'. All you need to bring is yourself! FMSC offers volunteers a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets and shipped to our incredible partners working hard to reach the neediest children around the world. Frequently asked: https://www.fmsc.org/about-us/faqs FMSC works best with groups of 5, and we've reserved all 11 groups, or a total of 55 people, for this 2 hour shift. If we can't fill this number I will give the empty slots back sometime in May. LET'S DO THIS! Just post to this thread if you'd like to go or with any questions. PLEASE TELL US THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN YOUR PARTY WHO WILL BE ATTENDING - WE NEED AN ACCURATE HEAD COUNT.
