GOTMTNS 2 Posted October 8, 2011 Its a tight fit when you drive the quad under, and its going to be even tighter when its right at the top of the ramps. Plus its just going to be a "spacer" lift with 2x4 steel tubing that's only going to get tacked for a bit of peace of mind, so if I notice an unsafe difference it will be easily removable with a grinder and wrenches. The upper rack won't see much added weight as it is mostly going to be used for light gear such as: sleeping bags, tents, cot pads, canopies, the "camp throne" and other light items. Plus the weight of the quad, gas cans, coolers, the 35 gallon water tank, firewood and other bulky items on the deck will help keep the COG low. GOTMTNS 2 Posted October 19, 2011 Rack shifted to the back of the trailer, now more weight is over the axle and less on the tongue. Safety chains mounted New 3500 lb trailer jack, old one self destructed. lol. Old jack mounting location, future jerry can mounting location, Big thanks to Hulkster for helping me shift the rack, was a more in depth project than we expected. Still need to adjust side tables. Also big thanks to Jeff for doing the welding for me when my welder wouldn't work. Heading up to deer camp in about 7 hours;so I will get to test the new setup fully loaded even stopping to fill the 35 gallon water container in Payson at my grandparents on our way through. GOTMTNS 2 Posted October 27, 2011 Very happy with the new setup on the trailer, and came up with some ideas for it in deer camp. Finally got the quad lubed up our first day in camp and she did great with 8 days of hard riding on some very rocky and then to get out last night very muddy roads, some new softer grips and the extended throttle are definitely on the to do list now though. Leaving for camp: Testing her flex and stability a bit during a ride back to camp mid day: Storm up north came in hard, and we made the decision to ride her out separate of the trailer to make it easier to get the trailer out. By the time I drove the little more than 2 mile distance out to the highway I was soaked to the bone and covered in mud from head to toe, ended up taking a "shower" with a 2 liter of flavored water before changing into dry clothes. lol. Oh yeah, got some interesting looks and some waves from the ranch hands who had been rounding up cattle that morning and were at the corral on the way out. The song that is in my signature kept playing in my head the whole way out, and is how my buddy labeled that pic when he posted on FB while I was "showering". GOTMTNS 2 Posted April 20, 2012 Just picked up the trailer from Jeff-JWFAB, had to share all the amazing work he did. Added a new removable ramp with ladder, added a removable cooler shelf that my gas cans and propane cans can be stored under, added kayak racks to both sides and fixed my tables so the can drop down and be used again. New cooler shelf: New ramp with ladder: Kayak racks: Misc: Hopefully the next time I am home I can get her cleaned up and painted, also need to hit a lock shop and get all the locks to secure everything and have them keyed alike for convenience. VERY BIG THANKS TO JEFF I highly recommend Jeffs work, and will continue to do business with him. We will be installing slider steps on my truck tomorrow and he will be doing a full custom front winch bumper with grill guard, can't wait to get that project started. theksmith 5,778 Posted April 20, 2012 very nice! having something done custom so it's exactly the way you need it is the way to go when you can. one thing - maybe i'm overly paranoid, but i'd add a piece of flat stock running vertical between the bottom inside of the kayak hoops and the uprights as a gusset... or else a small tube brace coming from the bottoms down at an angle would even be stronger and less wind resistance maybe. GOTMTNS 2 Posted October 17, 2014 Seeing some other project trailers, plus having my car hauler built has me thinking of some new mods on the trailer to make it better suited for trips and mounting the rooftop tent.
