I'm glad I came back to read your thread, because that OB2 is a crazy awesome compressor! Looks like that's going to get mounted externally underneath the rig, either above the flat belly skid or maybe back above the rear axle with a splash/rock guard along with about a 2 gallon tank. The JK is looking great, K! not sure it's rated for exposure to the elements, probably OK under hood, but under rig maybe not. have you seen the extreme air magnum? it's fully sealed mil-spec shiznit. It's different from the regular/current RTT's on the market. http://www.ikamper.com/ Your opinion is valued. hadn't seen that - looks interesting. i've never like the "tarp covered" style of RTT myself, always been more interested in the Maggiolina style. the new Eazi-Awn Stealth looks interesting too. the iKamper seems to have more room than other hard-case tents that i know of, and i really like that the entryway is covered (from rain/snow). however, the "regular price" (listed on kickstarter) of $2,950 is pretty hard to swallow. if it turns out to be super high quality, then i guess it makes since - it's somewhere between a top-end RTT and a permanent addition like the Ursa Minor... but i personally would not want to be the guinea pig on that! theksmith 5,778 Posted March 25, 2017 i headed up to Kingman last Sunday for a run organized by Offroad Passport member ChrisD and led by StockJeep. they were doing several trails from Saturday through Tuesday, but i could only join for Monday's Pass Canyon trail. the full trip report is here: https://offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4956 on the way up, i stopped behind Nothing for a pee break, and ended up on a couple miles of dirt side trail that looped me back to the 93 eventually. i also stopped by the Burro Creek Campground just to see what it was like. a little too crowded for my taste, all the spots seems right on top of each other - pretty area overall though. my camp was just south of I-40 in the beginning hills of the Hualapai mountains. being at about 4,500 Ft and still several miles from Kingman made for nice cooler weather. it was just over 50* when i got up Monday to have breakfast. i was treated to a beautiful view for sunrise. Pass Canyon is in the Black Mountains and their ruggedness made for more stunning scenery on the trail run. the colorful desert wildflowers contributed to the photogenic landscape as well. and ChrisD's newly revamped rig on Dana 60's and 40" tires also looked awesome! thanks again to Wayne for leading and to Chris for posting the trip here on Offroad Passport! theksmith 5,778 Posted April 6, 2017 my new compressor showed up yesterday evening! unfortunately there's not enough time to get it installed before the Mojave Preserve trip tomorrow. i did rotate the mounts sideways and check fitment under the front passenger seat. looks like no problem getting 1 in, and i think i can create a mount that will allow for a second one under there eventually as well. putting in 2 along with the manifold, relays, hoses, wiring, etc. will be a very tight fit though. theksmith 5,778 Posted April 12, 2017 i originally posted this to the folks that went on our last Mojave trip, but dzJeepChic suggested i re-post where everyone can see it since it's an especially common thing on JK's with front skids... everyone please check your undercarriage for leaves/limbs/etc. both groups did some really brushy areas and might have picked up plant debris which can dry out after a few days and create a fire hazard (especially if wedged in near the exhaust). this whole pile of kindling was still stuffed up in my engine/tranny skid even after the long freeway ride home: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
theksmith 5,778 Posted April 12, 2017 traffic was heavy but moving insanely fast coming back into Phoenix on the 93 after our Mojave trip Sunday evening... i now know that the JK in it's current state (2.5" budget boost, stock tires/wheels) is capable of exactly 99 MPH before developing a very slight shimmy!
