An aMAZEing trip to Canyonlands!

Recommended Posts

Monument Basin.  Wow!   When you travel along the White Rim Trail, it is one of only a few places where you can see all the various formations.  And those 'Needles' off in the distance are of the Needles District of Canyonlands.

From there we headed over to the Green River.   From this point we were able to identify Chimney Rock, Standing Rock, Lizard Rock, the Wall, etc - of the Maze District of Canyonlands.  Across the Green River.  Tim and Devon spent one night at Chimney Rock...same rock.

And then!  Oh my Liver....Up over Murphy's Hogback, and down the other side.   We were REALLY GLAD that the rain of Sunday had dried out. (This was on Tuesday)  And then we had to do even more - up and down Hardscrabble Hill!!!

Last post.   From our campsite at the bottom of Hardscrabble Hill, we tried to figure out where was the trail that we had just come across!!!  This picture was taken from our campsite.

The next day, we exited the Park.  We crossed Upheavel Basin - created eons ago by a meterorite, and is sometimes flooded and causing the trail to be closed in this section.  There is deep sand in this basin.   (I CAN'T imagine having to turn around here and go back!   We used our extra 5 gal of fuel already).  We traveled along the Green River, and then up the hill of Mineral Springs Bottom Trail.  (outside the park, on BLM land - good trail)

And for my friends Tim and Devon! - I couldn't do this in the MAze District, but what's a trip to Canyonlands without baking brownies in an antique camp oven....Sorry we missed you on this one....Next time for sure.
