theksmith 5,778 Posted July 19, 2011 george helped me last week add another brace/mount for the sliders, i was worried that the increased leverage from a hit near the outside now that they are wider might pull them off the body with only 2 "legs" holding them on. we made the new mount the same as the others so that they are still removable. they are crazy wide! makes getting in and out a little more difficult, but worth it hopefully to keep the rocks out of the doors. Something like those is what I want to make for the Dodge, with it only being 2wd its going to slide into more obstacles than I am looking forward too. theksmith 5,778 Posted July 22, 2011 thanks guys! last week george also moved my shock mounts for me. i didn't feel like my rear were positioned right during the axle swap - i don't think they were allowing enough room for compression of bumpstops during heavy hits and might bottom out the shocks. also the front i could put longer shocks on without compromising any clearance, so i wanted to do that to get maximum droop. my rear bushings were shot and they were just crap shocks, and i blew out a front shock already, so i ended up with new Teraflex VSS shocks for a 6" lift on a JK. they are supposed to be valved application-specific and i figured a JK is similar weight to mine. i measured what i thought would fit and i could have actually gone a little longer in the front, but there wasn't a longer option. one day i hope to do some bad-a$$ bypass shocks, but till then i really don't think spending the money on higher end remote reservoir shocks is worth it. these were on sale for $57 each at 4wheelparts and hey, there's black! working on the back: the new front mounting location: the new rear location... these hang a little low, but no lower than the control arm mounts so i don't really think it'll be a problem. they are tucked right over next to the wheel and also kinda help protect the brake caliper now too. anyway, i'd rather sacrifice a little clearance for more droop and therefore stability during crawls and uneven terrrain. i want to get some limit straps now too, need to jack it up and measure for them.
