theksmith 5,778 Posted June 18, 2014 Aimee handed me new rear window lift struts a couple days ago so i put those on. she tells me the hood ones are ordered as well. does everyone have to replace these things every couple years, or does the AZ heat wear them out faster? They work in the morning when the fluid is cool but as soon as it gets warm they are a no go.How Odd… :confused: That's just backwards of the way they normally fail to provide sufficient holding pressure to maintain the hood or lift gate opened position. The reason is that they are "Gas Springs". IE: the mechanism by which they apply pressure to hold the gate/hood open, is via gas pressure acting as the spring. In every instance I'm aware of they have higher pressures when warm, thus work better warm, than cold. The "killer" of these things in our AZ environment, is the highly abrasive dust, which damage the seals and the gas charged bags, which then in turn allows the gas to slowly deplete/escape, causing them to become less effective.
