scottL 185 Posted December 21, 2016 Who's got the day off? Let's run Elvis next Tuesday December 27th. The trail is located off Hwy 79 & Price road in Florence Junction, AZ. We will either finish the loop out of Box Canyon trail back to Price road or exit via Cottonwood Canyon road depending on time. I'd like to be back to Phoenix by dark. Appropriate for high-clearance 4x4 vehicles with good articulation, 32" aggressive tread tires and probably at least 1 locker would be advised. Trail #61 in the 2nd Edition Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails book by Charles Wells, Elvis trail is rated difficult but there are bypasses for the extreme stuff and right after the first obstacle is Sandman road, a graded dirt track which leads back to hwy 79 if needed. Box Canyon (trail #62 in Wells' book) is rated moderate with a few large boulders that require careful tire placement. Meet-up: 9:30 AM - Depart for trail 10 AM (or when everyone is ready) Highway 79 & Price road MAP: https://goo.gl/maps/Qiz6Bv6cYAn Additional Info: See post #3 below regarding permit information required for this trip. dzJeepChic 2,897 Posted December 21, 2016 No permit is required for this trip. Unless I am misinterpreting this interactive map, I think that we cross a lot of AZ State Trust Land all along Price Road and basically all over the FJ area: http://gis.azland.gov/webapps/parcel/?loc=-110.9369,33.1008,10&layers=3,1,0 We already have one, but if you need one you can get it online now and then print it at: permit: https://land.az.gov/natural-resources/recreational-permits
DanJL 46 Posted December 21, 2016 Please add me as tentative. I'll know better after in a day or two.
