Babysitting my wife after her surgery, or I would show up. Have not seen anything about this cleanup on any of the other forums I am on.

This are will still be covered in the Fourpeaks Cleanup in February wont it? Us Nissan folks have cleaned that area the last two years of the Fourpeaks Cleanup.

This is the effort of one man, Chad in the 1st post above, from Copperstate Wheelers. Not bad for his 1st time organizing something like this, there were 38 people out there. He wants to make it another annual thing just to keep up on it between 4 peaks clean ups I think. We pulled quite a bit of junk out of there today. d

I was talking to William down at Sierra Expeditions today, and he tells me that the organizers of the Fourpeaks Cleanup are not going to be able to do it again. I messaged AZ-Ted (as he is known on many boards) who did a lot of the organizing for the Table Mesa Cleanup about picking up the ball on the Fourpeaks Cleanup. Instead of weighing one or two people down with all the organizational responsibilities, have those like Chad, and Ted who have done this and have the know how and connections form a group of volunteers and deligate some tasks, preferably to enough people who live in different parts of the valley so as to spread the load over many.

 

Perhaps a meeting of some sorts to get the ball rolling. The sooner we can designate a date the sooner we can start hyping that date on all the different boards.

 

I will do whatever I can, and hopefully we can get enough volunteers so this is not a huge burden on any one of us.

 

The ornganizers of the Fourpeaks Cleanup have had 3 successful years and I do not blame them for wanting to pass the torch.

The Sugarloaf Cleanup was a big success thanks to all of Chad & his wife's efforts. We got there right after a pipe bomb was discovered and the Sheriff said everyone they had to move. We jumped in to help them break down and move the easy-ups & tables. Between about 8 of us we got the Operation HQ moved pretty fast.

 

The new location:

 

 

After helping at the shooting area behind the new HQ location, George and I walked along the road picking up Budlight cans, empty Thirstbusters and other random debris.

 

 

We stopped to watch the Sheriff's Bomb Squad set up their robot to go in. Naturally I'd left my camera in the Jeep while we were picking up trash, so I didn't get a picture of it, and I kind of had a hard time watching them arm it thinking I should go get my camera. Anyhow it was a way cool toy; like a remote control robot on little tractor treads with a camera that can go up, down, and at different angles. It also had a shotgun that was remote controlled - we watched them load and arm it. Awesome!

 

After we ate lunch I walked around with my camera taking some pictures, and when I walked back to where the bomb scare was, one of the Deputies asked me "Did you hear it?" And I said "No, did it explode?" And he said "No, you didn't miss anything."

Law Enforcement gets cool toys: the robot tranmitted images to this laptop. The grey truck with a cap had a drawer/rack that slides out with a lot of equipment easy to get to at once. Sorry it's blurry:

 

 

One guy towed a big trailer out there to help haul trash & got stuck in the soft sand in the wash near HQ 2, so the Tonto Ranger, Rick pulled him out:

We stayed for the raffle - there was some pretty cool stuff. Wil won a tow-strap & his buddy won the prize donated by Sierra Expeditions, which was pretty funny. Sc00by won a $25 gift card from Desert Rat, go Paul!

Hi all,

We had a good turn out at Saturday's cleanup. 38 people volunteered their time to help cleanup one of our popular recreational areas. We weren't without excitement however. One of our volunteers found something which resembled a pipe bomb and the bomb squad was called out. But, we made quite a dent on the trash in the area. We managed to fill a garbage packer twice plus a load that couldn't fit; in all I'm told we collected 4 tons of garbage. It was a beautiful day for a cleanup and I wanted to thank all of the volunteers who came out to help. Copperstate 4 wheelers is planning on making this an annual cleanup, likely the 1st or 2nd weekend in November. So, please put Copperstates 2nd annual clean up on your calender for next year. Thank you all who came and helped us break down camp and move; apparently the bomb squad doesn't mess around and wanted us moved quick.

Hi all,

 

This was my first attempt at organizing a cleanup, it started as a suggestion at one of our monthly Copperstate 4wheeler meetings that we would plan quarterly clean ups at the club level. We have already adopted Alder creek and go on a trip every April through log corral to clean up the area. It's a big loop and a long day but we usually get some trash out. When we failed to plan a clean up for August or September I figured we needed to try to make up for it and go big, Sugar loaf is a big area. I had also heard that the Fourpeaks clean up is not going to be held in 2011. I really enjoyed planning this cleanup, I was really glad to see people out there who shared my enthusiasum for trying to keep these places clean, and I will definately plan more cleanups.

 

I have learned a few things though about this process. 1) start earlier. I really thought I had a good jump on this but next year I will start earlier. 2) don't plan the week of Nascar. 3) don't plan the week after a big clean up (Table Mesa). 4) plan to provide lunch. 5) get more trash bags. We went through 375 trash bags.
