Mineral Mountain/ Box Canyon

Join me on a day trip over Mineral Mountain into the Box Canyon at Florence  We will air down on I-60 East and  work our way south over the mountain.  We will end the ride to the famous and scenic Box Canyon.  Should be a a mildly challenging ride with bypasses, some optional crawl’ish spots for those who want them.
(See vehicle requirements.)
Plan on having lunch on the trail. Bring a chair

 

MEET UP (Saturday) 4/26, 2025 @ 9:00 AM)

Where:  The Shell Station on the north side of I-60 east at south Mountainbrook Drive.  It’s in the small community of Gold Canyon.


I’ll be parked at the Shell, but there is a Circle K next door. 

  •  We will  start the ride promptly at 9:20 AM
  • Start with a full tank of gas  

 

TRAIL INFORMATION

  • Difficulty Ratingeasy mod
  • Trail issues. Forest road, some ridge and ledge roads. A couple places that  are little technical, but have bypasses. Fine for newer drivers. 
  • COMMS

    GMRS Channel 20 (462.675 mhz)   I’ll has several hand held radios to loan. 

     

    DRIVER REQUIREMENTS

    • Trip is suitable to all experience levels
    • Willingness to commit to significant seat time with us  
    • A cool head and a positive attitude

     

    VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: Trip is suitable to any high-clearance 4x4

    • All vehicles are required to meet state legal requirements, (i.e.: current registration and insurance) & have functional seat-belts for each occupant
    • Must have suitable recovery points front and rear
    • Must have, durable, all-terrain tires
    • Must have an operational GMRS radio or Ham Radio capable of GMRS frequencies.  I'll have a couple loners.
    • Must have a full-size spare tire

     

    VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS

    • Sway bar disconnects, winch,  rock sliders, skid plate protections, high-clearance metal bumpers, 33"+ tires
    • The ability to air down your tires and air them up at the end of the trail will contribute to your comfort and enjoyment of the trail. 

     

    KEY CONSIDERATIONS

    • This is an all-day adventure, please factor that into your planning
    • Bring a trail lunch 
    • MORE WATER THAN YOU NEED
    • Camping chair
    • Sunscreen
    • Camera
    • Appropriate clothing for the environment
    • Recovery gear
    • First Aid

@CAVU2, Mick is starting this run from the US 60 and going south to finish with Box Canyon.
