Project510 24 Posted May 2, 2011 Well as if watching the Athletics get pounded by the Texas Rangers Saturday wasnt bad enough, as I was headed home after a evening out with friends I was rear ended by a green F150. I was driving on a "down townish" street headed towards the freeway entrance, when I had to stop abruptly because of a car in front of me. Just before I came to a complete stop I was slammed forward by a younger gentleman in a green F150 who later said he was looking down and didnt realize I had stopped at a light. If he was going as fast as I was then Id say he was doing 30 then calculate his speed by assum ing at the last second he hit the brakes, but I heard no tire lock up.. so I think its safe to assume he was going at least 25 when he hit me. I only have a bad cell pic of his truck, as I was VERY heated and trying not to loose my temper. The bad cell pic doesnt not show all of the damage. Both his airbags went off, destroying the windsheild. His entire front end is gone.. one headlight was still on but there was glass everywhere.. and I am pretty sure.. judging by the fact that when he moved the truck outa the street and his radiator fell out in 2 pieces... hes got some considerable damage he has yet to see. As for me, well for now it looks as tho the battle of Frontier vs. F150 I have been declared the winner.. The damage appears to not be nearly as bad as his.. However.. the bumper was slammed into the bed, which is now "tweaked" or crooked by about a 1/4 of an inch... The bumper being attached to the frame is what has me worried. Despite all the gripes Ihave about my truck.. I really think it would be more of an inconveniance for me to loose it due to a bent frame. The adjuster from the other driver's insurance is going to be here in the morning at 10:30. This is actually the first time I have ever been hit so as far as I know, I am going to be getting an estimate of the cost of repairs by him, and will then receive a check. I can then take it to a shop of my choice, and if the estimate is lower, they will pay the shop directly for any extra costs. I am assuming this also means if they say the frame is bad, and will be totalled. Does anyone have experiance with this kind of accident? If the frame did get messed up fromthe bumper can it be fixed? Is it safe? So anyways... I am a bit sad.. and I think the gf noticed because when I came home from work she surprised me with new shoes and plans to go watch Fast Five with her sister and brother in law (which was awesome by the way, if you see it make sure you stay a few mins to see what happens after the credits) Next step: Hunt for a body shop thats is 4x4 friendly if you know what I mean Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
dzJeepChic 2,897 Posted May 2, 2011 Aw, so sad James! I've been hit a couple times but not that bad. Your thought process about how the insurance payment works sounds about right. Project510 24 Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks for the advice everyone, yea I am fine. Well see once I find a shop to go to. I wish I had the skills let alone the tools to fix it myself. theksmith 5,778 Posted May 2, 2011 usually the bumper mounting crunches before the frame gives... but if it was hard enough it might have crunched that completely and started to tweak frame - more likely just the bed has been shifted and can be lined back up. if you find the right shop that will work with you, then maybe you can end up with a custom rear bumper or something in place of what you had and come out ahead! also a lot of small shops these days will do "we pay your deductible" which really just means they manage to jack up their price to the insurance enough to cover it, but hey... Project510 24 Posted May 3, 2011 So the Insurance inspector person came today, he was merely there to check the damage, take photos, make note of what he "thinks" should or would need to be done. I was told I would be contacted about their estimate and to set up a rental car so I can be mobile during the process. I stopped by a few shops, and am almost ready to choose where to take the truck. I am just waiting for word from the insurance. If I hear nothing today, I will make a call tomorrow. Since the rear will have to be worked on, maybe its a good time to upgrade rear bumper Calmini - $349 Shockwerks - which I hear has a crazy loooong wait time - $500 KMA - $400 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

And looks to be the only one that raises the rear bump clearance.. the rest almost look lower than stock lol I do like the KMA the best, and it also provides a spot for the LP lights.. being in Ca I bet I would get popped regularly without those..
