I don't know anything about the med kit (I have a Adventure Medical Kits branded one, you might want to compare how their larger packs compare to this one). However, the Edgestar is a great low-budget fridge. I just got mine for this last Canyonlands trip and it worked great. It's not quite as well-made or as well-known as an Engel, ARB, or Dometic/Waeco... and certainly not in the same class (or huge price-range) as a National Luna - but it does the job. Realize that it is a true compressor driven fridge/freezer, it will freeze things if you set it to. Do not confuse this with one of the much cheaper thermoelectric "cooler/warmers" - those only cool a certain amount below ambient temps, which here in the desert makes them nearly useless. The 43q Edgestar/Whynter fridge is pretty darn big on the outside, but manageable. Inside doesn't really matter as you can just swap in more food/drinks as you need that you store elsewhere. I've seen people with this cooler say it ran for a full day without getting to the "battery low" warning, and others that got 2 full days out of it. Most of the time you are running the vehicle a little every day or 2 at least, and so this wouldn't be an issue. Certainly you can run this and not have to have a dual battery setup. The Overland Journal Summer 2010 edition did a comparison on several fridges and this ranked the worst - however, keep in mind it's a $550 fridge (that you can get open box or with this group buy for around $400), whereas all the others reviewed were $800+ (and the winning National Luna was $1,500). Once you get a fridge, you'll wonder how you ever dealt with melting ice and food before, it's a great thing to have. In summary, this is the lowest price "real" fridge you can get. While I wouldn't pay the retail $500 to $600 some places charge, the $400 price point is perfect for what you get. here is more info on it: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23350
