When we were in Kingman, as soon as we came to the 1st rock crawl on Moss Wash, the cooler was nearly in my lap! We knew we had to do something to tie down stuff - even beyond weekend trail-running stuff to keep it secure. ob1jeeper 849 Posted October 11, 2010 G&D... The addition of that trans cooler is a GREAT idea, as it adds on the order of 15-25% cooling capacity to the overall transmission fluid cooling system. HOWEVER, the removal of the in-tank cooler in the radiator from the trans cooling is not the direction I would recommend, as without doing tests on this particular set of hardware I can't tell you exactly how much you've lost in cooling capacity for the transmissioin fluids, but from my experience I would not be surprised if you lost over half, and even up to 75-80%, of the transmission fluid cooling capacity by the elimination of the in-tank cooler... Oil-to-water coolers are significantly more efficient than oil-to-air coolers, and the ones similar to what you installed that I've had experience with are designed to supplement the lower tanks oil-to-water coolers... dzJeepChic 2,897 Posted October 31, 2010 Here's a news flash: it rained like crazy on our trip last weekend to the Maze District. We learned some valuable information about Clifford on this trip. 1.) It's pretty easy to rig up a tarp if it looks like it's going to rain, but we'd like to devise something faster and easier: 2.) We both fit in the back of the Jeep well and comfortably, so even when it's windy and raining, we're warm and snug (my favorite part)! 3.) The plans we have to extend the tubing wider along the wheel wells (increase fender width) is absolutely imperative! The tires stick out far enough that, as is, the entire Jeep gets coated in the right conditions: 4.) Gas Guage is WAY off! When it's at 1/4 a fill up is only 9 gals. 5.) Need new Tempurature Sending Unit Clifford proved to be a worthy highway and trail machine, and a comfortable outpost under harsh conditions. George will be doing some improvements in the next few weeks I'll post up the pics. I definetely want to take Clifford on The Mojave now that I know we can both sleep inside. I'm a happy camper! d PS: Remember, the entire backseat is gone, and the deck was custom-built for this purpose. The seats are out of a Mazda 3 and were retro-fitted to the Jeep because they fold forward unlike XJ seats. They also slide forward allowing 6'3" of space in the back. klaykrusher 65 Posted October 31, 2010 Hi D! I picked up a bus depot ez awn. For the most part I like it. I'll be looking at ways to make the setup easier. Only used it on my Liberty so far. I like that it is arched in the center and attaches to the roof rack rails with just a couple of bungies. It's 8x8, but I guess they are coming out with an 11 footer in Dec. Oops...
