George fixed the 'Wandering Steering Wheel' we experienced during highway travel by welding 2 shims onto the Pitman Arm to make it thicker; it wouldn't tighten & cinch up into the cone-shaped sector shaft spline. (The nut would tighten but the pitman arm still wobbled around before he did that). On the way to Utah and back Clifford drove a lot better; it doesn't feel like you have to adjust steering to stay in your lane, it doesn't travel now. He got the shims from True Value Hardware (of all places), lined them up and welded them on: Today George changed the oil, and while he was at it he fixed an oil leak. At first he thought that there was a leak at the rear main seal, but on closer inspection it was coming from the oil filter housing. He'd read a thread on NAXJA that said you could buy an Oil Filter O-Ring kit for this, so he went to O' Rielly's to get it. Turned out that the only O-Ring out of the kit that worked was the big one, and George had to pillage through his O-Ring Spare Collection for the other small ones involved. Here's the unit reinstalled with a new oil filter. Hope it doesn't leak anymore! A new Radiator is coming soon, and I need to have the master lock switch looked at; suddenly the doors don't all lock when I set the alarm. While we were in Utah I thought it was because of the cold, but it's still not working right. George said it has to do with 'Those Damned XJ Doors'. theksmith 5,778 Posted May 9, 2011 Sorry the camera focused on the fence. Here's the OEM bushing in the Rock Krawler Track-Bar. Had to do some grinding on the bushing to make the diameter smaller, and heat up the track-bar to force it in.
