scottL 185 Posted November 6, 2013 Does it run hotter at a crawl or hotter on the freeway? Remember Clifford ran hotter under freeway load and would cool off at idle and that was plugged exhaust. If it runs hotter at slow speed, I'd change the viscous clutch. We know it's not a plugged radiator since that is relatively new and I assume the t-stat has been changed as well. Hotter on the freeway. it never seems to run hot when wheeling, in fact, when i have mOOse often times i'll leave it running all day long on the trail without turning off the a/c. My exhaust was completely redone two years ago:
ob1jeeper 849 Posted November 8, 2013 Airflow across the radiator core, created by fans is what is needed to correct LOW speed or idle cooling issues… Unless there is something else such as a LARGE winch, etc. obstructing airflow for which you need fans to get ambient air to flow to the radiator, with EXTREMELY RARE exceptions, adding fans to cure a highway speed heating issue is counter-productive, as they tend to block airflow @ highway speeds. If i got rid of my winch, then she'd lose 90lbs! George had the same radiator on Clifford and i believe he tried removing his winch to see if it would run cooler @ highway speeds without success. scottL 185 Posted November 8, 2013 R&R'd my valve cover gasket. Old one was leaking all over the back of the block Used a Factory Mopar (Felpro) gasket that came with all new grommets. The old grommets were cracked and brittle: new gasket matches the paint:cool:
LO PHAT 1 Posted November 8, 2013 R&R'd my valve cover gasket. Old one was leaking all over the back of the block Used a Factory Mopar (Felpro) gasket that came with all new grommets. The old grommets were cracked and brittle: Nice job, Scott. I just did the same thing on my XJ this past Wednesday. I even used the same Fel-Pro gasket. An interesting observation I made was that the rubber grommets that came with the Fel-Pro gasket looked "inadequately designed" compared to the factory originals. I opted not to replace them since they don't seal anything and are only there to discourage people from over tightening the valve cover bolts. The metal sleeves inside of the grommets only allow the bolts to be tightened so far anyway. Unfortunately I ended up needing to also replace the CCV and its rubber grommet because it was impossible to disconnect the CCV from the vacuum line or remove it from the valve cover. I wound up having to destroy the CCV piece by piece and then having to cut out the rubber grommet with a utility knife.

scottL 185 Posted November 22, 2013 what happened with the tcase? did absolute offroad do it or someone else or what??????? E-mailed Jason at absolute off road about rebuilding my tcase on October 29th. He called a couple days later & initially, stated it would not be a problem. We agreed that I would drop my jeep off at his shop on 11/15 and plan on picking it up 11/16. Since 11/10 I’ve e-mailed twice and called twice without success, one of the e-mails I sent last Monday: "Good afternoon Jason, checking in to make sure we are still on for this Friday.." he replied two hours later: "I'll give you a shout first thing tomorrow morning!" It's been cricket chirps since, I tried calling several more times without success. Perhaps my reputation precedes me:confused:
