scottL 185 Posted November 5, 2013 On our last trip to the lake i noticed my Jeep was running in the 210-225 degree range on a beautiful late October afternoon with the A/C off, windows down & cool wind in my hair. So i've been looking at this http://www.flex-a-lite.com/radiators/direct-fit-flex-a-fit-aluminum-radiator-and-electric-fans-for-87-01-jeep-cherokee.html According to flex a fit, their new triple electric fan set up with variable fan speed control is the be all end all to cooling problems that we inline 6 powered xj owners seem to have no real answer for other than cheap chinese plastic that doesn't last more than a year. I cannot find any negative reviews on them whatsoever and apparently, even a girl can install it: I am aware you could choke a horse with all the cash necessary to take one of these home but overheating is an issue i would really like to solve before tackling the 'con. Does anyone around here have prior experience or constructive opinions with this relatively new radiator? looks like a really nice unit. ha, i said "nice unit". anyway, my only concern is that it's just a bandaid. if your jeep used to not run hot, then you didn't change anything, and now it has started running a bit warm - then there must be a root problem. better to find out the real problem and fix that.... of course i do understand that is easier said than done sometimes. does your XJ have an electric or mechanical fan currently? Since then i believe G's already swapped in another chinese junk and now mine's running warm again.. Water pump, radiator, electric fan have all been replaced in mine within the past 50,000 miles (radiator swapped 3x over). K, Are you suggesting my engine could be the "root" of the problem? K, Are you suggesting my engine could be the "root" of the problem? wouldn't jump to the engine conclusion yet. have you replaced the viscous clutch on your mechanical fan? those do wear out and then your electric fan could be struggling to pick up the slack. I don't think so but perhaps.. I bought one and brought it to George during the last radiator swap but upon further inspection he advised me to return it because mine was still "good". P.S. Bradywgn71 1,008 Posted November 6, 2013 Does it run hotter at a crawl or hotter on the freeway? Remember Clifford ran hotter under freeway load and would cool off at idle and that was plugged exhaust. If it runs hotter at slow speed, I'd change the viscous clutch. We know it's not a plugged radiator since that is relatively new and I assume the t-stat has been changed as well. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
