Offroad Passport 45 Posted July 26, 2012 4/5 - 4/7/2013: Rug Road, AZ (Near Mammoth, AZ) 4x4 Moderate, Dry Camping We're running the infamous Rug Road backwards this time, making the Carpet Hill obstacle less intimidating and more suitable for lightly modified rigs. Join us on this early Spring trip for 2 nights of remote tent camping. You'll see great scenery ranging from a lush river canyon with steep cliff walls, to dry hilly desert. There are plenty of mining ruins in the area, and the historic Klondyke General Store is a must see for any Ghost Town aficionado. With just enough challenge to keep you interested but not tire you out, this is one of our favorite Arizona trails! Itinerary: Please be fueled up and packed ready for 2 days/nights out on the trail when you get to the meet up spot. There won't be any more chances to buy anything from that point. The Meet up map shows the route from Circle K in Mammoth (where we get gas) to the meet up spot. When we get off the trail Sunday at Klondyke Rd & Hwy 70, the nearest gasoline is 7 miles south to the Minut Market in Pima (MAP...) (Update: We discovered Keen's Store/Cafe in Fort Thomas does not have gasoline). Meet: 1:00PM at the Shooting Range located on Copper Creek Rd East of River Rd in Mammoth, AZ (MAP...) I definately want to go so consider us 99.9% sure I love Ghost town hunting - I have 3 different Arizona Ghost Town books and I have been to dozens of them.
