Thanx for sharing these timely and beautiful pictures, and the storyline... It was for sure an adventure to take on the trip from Wahweap to Rainbow and back on one of them things.:eek: I tried one a few years ago, but they're just too damned rough for an old codger like me... Especially when the winds pick up, and as you discovered, in the narrower canyons where the straight canyon walls and boat traffic create reflection waves from multiple directions... It's even rough in a larger boat, much less the PWC's... I've spent the past few days getting the boat ready for our annual week-long June trip there... My close friends and our families have been going there for a week in June, for the past 25+ years together. Occasionally we've also rented a houseboat, but mostly we've simply camped and used our boats to get us up-lake for day-trips to the dunes on the back side of Castle Rock, Rainbow Bridge (a MUST for ANY Lake Powell newbie), the Miners steps, hole in the Rock, and the myriad of side canyons to go exploring in, etc.. etc.:cool: For the first few years we camped and stayed on the beaches of half-moon bay on the East side of Antelope Island, but eventually that grew old (not to mention the increases in the numbers of folks visiting that end of the lake that "D" reported), so we began to camp further up-lake, and for the past several years, we've camped within a few miles of Dangling Rope, because of the handy access to fuel at the end of the day. Lake Powell is without a doubt, one of THE most remarkable and beautiful places on earth, much less AZ & Utah, and even after all these years of visiting we've only been able to see less than half of it all.:eek: I can't wait to get this years June trip in gear...:D:D:D:D...

Agreed... Being a prototype, I'm guessing that nearly EVERYTHING on it is made of un-obtainium...

Kris, Since there is no "frame" per-se with a uni-body, you will want to get that seam welded back together at least in a stitched fashion...

This type of joint seal, is designed to NOT require being flushed, and it is NOT supposed to leak through the balloon cavity seal. Trace amounts of lube will slip past the ball socket seal, with each rotation of the joint. The balloon cavity is intended to hold sufficient amount (a spoonful or so) of lube to keep the joint from running dry at which point it will begin to wear quickly... So all you need to do is pump a squirt or two each time you lube... just enough to cause the cavity to swell a little bit, and call it good... IF this type of seal splits or begins to ooze lube while lubing it, the balloon is damaged and you will either need to replace the joint, or lube it more frequently than you would otherwise, to ensure that a supply of fresh lube is available to keep the joint properly lubricated, and that there is no contaminates in the lube cavity...

When lubing this type of sealed TRE, a couple puffs of the gun should cause it to expand a little. That's all the grease it needs... More than that and you end up with a leaking mess that is actually harder on the seals than the method I described...

Appears to me as if it's been over-lubed with too much grease... The bulb looks swollen, as if it's been inflated like a balloon... Try removing the zerk and letting about 1/3-1/2 of that grease out, and not forcing so much in next time around... PS: ANY lithium based lube will work fine... No need to waste $$'s on the synthetics for these parts... I prefer the moisture resistant stuff for marine use for my chassis lube needs... (To save $$'s, I buy the marine grease from Checker or Wally World)...

Looks like you had a BLAST... Sorry I did not make it, but just as well, as I discovered a fractured/seeping brake line Friday morning, that took me a few hours to find and install parts for anyway...

That's because the shiny one has never been on the ground (as in Brand Spanking NEW...)... I bought it to complete the set of the other 4 used ones I got with a TJ I had purchased a number of years ago...

Been semi-hammering Wickenburg and especially the mountains just to the north of here for much of the day as well... We had sporadic sleet for a couple hours here between 4-6... I know it's gonna be a bit more than brisk in the Canyon Friday evening, and from the weather reports I've been watching, not much warmer Saturday... I've been struggling with some shoulder issues most of the week, so believe it's in my best interests to not put myself in that kind of weather situation. Sorry this is such short notice, and it is with sadness that I've come to this conclusion, but I'm gonna bail on you guys...:(

Russ, I'm guessing the economy would be calculated more in line with the aerospace and boating conventions of gallons per hour and be heavily dependent upon payload and terrain... AND I strongly suspect none of us here would wish to have to pay the fuel bill for the trip across Alaska, much less the Alaska-Arizona trip... BTW: This one in Alaska is the twin to the one that was tested @ YPG...

IN... Will be still rubbing the sleep from my eyes (OR needing to get rid of LOTS of coffee about then:eek:), but will meet you guys @ the Gold Canyon Shell...

Yup... Lunched the D35 trying to climb up the last obstacle on Cliff Hanger, which for a stock vehicle can be a bit of a challenge even before the chewed up mess some of the beer drinking retards with their big motored and big axle buggies got done hammering the heck out of it and coating with with a heavy layer of silt, sand, and empty beer cans...:mad: Let's just say they are NOT what you would call the types of ambassadors we want the public to see representing out sport... Because we did not feel like driving to the Valley and they had to head home Thursday noonish anyway, so we Lincoln locked it, but the bearings were toasted too, so it went on the trailer, and we begged rides in other vehicles, like the Yellow JK... The Yellow Chero is indeed the one we built for last years EJS...

What WAS I thinking... Sold this boat to a buddy from Ohio, who brought out his YJ for a little EJS fun... He conned his BIL into coming out with his family and towing home the boat for him... Ready to roll towards Moab... Near Flagstaff Arrival in Moab... First Trails the following morning... Afternoon on Moab Rim... Moab Rim & the YJ from Ohio - Stock 4 cyl 5-spd, open/open on 31's... Hells Revenge...

The day after Xmas 2000, I picked up the SeS Minnow in Perrysburg, Ohio, and towed it out here through a multitude of snow storms, taking me nearly 6 days to get from there to here. :eek: (Might have something to do with the fact I was towing with a 2WD truck, and hit some MAJOR ice AND snow storms...). Spent a BUNCH of time and $$'s on getting it the way I wanted it, but in the end after rretirement, decided an open fisherman style was not gonna suit my week-plus long camping/fishing/boating trips to Powell & San Diego. SO... decided to part with it... The nearly new twin 4-stroke outboards were sold last year, and the hull/trailer finally sold a week or so ago... It's come full circle and is headed home to Ohio... Planning on leaving @ O-Dark-Thirty in the morning, towing it to Moab where I will turn it over to new owner and his son, who are coming out to play @ EJS with thier Jeep YJ, then tow this boat home with them... Hope to be fishing on the Minnow again in June, as he has plans to have it ready for a fishing tourney we are entered in near P-Cola in June... Final night in AZ for the Minnow...

Scott & Barb are fastidious about keeping their stuff clean and well maintained... It's a looker for sure...
